We’ve all fallen off our game at one point or another. You start off strong and then an event or choice completely throws you off. This recently happened to me and I lived in that funk for a month! A whole month! So much wasted time. I’m writing this blog post not only for myself but for those of you who have trouble staying on track with hopes that it serves as a reminder of the bigger picture– your time is the most precious thing you have.
- Make your bed
Yup! Something as simple as making your bed is HUGE! It makes the whole room look more put together and also keeps you from going back to sleep. Always do this, it has been said that you’ll have a more productive day as well.
- Do any household chores you’ve been putting off
Every morning I get up and do the dishes. Most of the time it’s just unloading the dishwasher because I do the dishes right after eating. While my coffee is brewing I do this and make myself something to eat. I can’t stand having an unorganized kitchen or dirty dishes. I also start rotating any laundry that needs to be done and take out the garbages if it’s time. Getting these things out of the way first thing in the morning before you have time to procrastinate will actually save you time during your day and leave your brain space open for more productive thoughts. Don’t think just DO!
- Take care of your pets & give them love
Don’t get so caught up in your chores/work that you don’t take time to give love to your fur babies! You are the most important thing in their lives, remember that! Spoil them with kisses and cuddles before you leave for the day (if you leave).
The very first thing I do when I get out of bed is take the girls outside to pee. I’m currently in the process of training a 2 month old puppy so this is so crucial. After that they each get a treat and then it’s time to play.
- Take care of yourself
People always say this is a huge one but I didn’t realize how huge it was until I was out of my norm. I live part time in South Carolina and part time in my home town in New York. My hairdresser, spa, eyebrow tech and gym, along with all my other “places” are in NY. Being the loyalist I am to my places back home I generally refrain from going to new ones when I’m down south, unless of course its an emergency. I work out at the gym on base with Connor a few times a week, but it’s just not the same. My motivation has been out of whack recently and I think it’s because I haven’t made this a priority. This week I plan to get myself a pick me up so I’m headed to the nail salon for a mani and pedi! Appearance isn’t everything but I’m a firm believer that when I look good I feel good and working from home doesn’t require me to even get dressed. Which brings me to this next one…
- Get Ready
I technically never have to get out of my PJs during the week but I always do every single day, even if I’m not leaving the house. My outfit of choice is usually a cute matching gym outfit from Alo Yoga. Still comfortable but if I need to leave the house to pick up groceries or whatever I look put together and feel good. I get dressed everyday to change my mindset to work mode. I always wash my face, brush my teeth and hair, and a lot of the time I do my make up too. Get up and get yourself together!
- Goal Setting
What is your ultimate goal? What is your goal for this year? The next couple months? This week? While my ultimate goal in life is still in the works, I do think about goals I’d like to reach within the year. Starting with the week I’m currently in, I check out the calendar (I use ViaPlan for my calendar) to see what work needs to be done, what events are coming up and what I need to prepare for. Lately things have been a little more exciting with people visiting and getting a new puppy all while getting our house ready to rent out so we’ve been experiencing a busy schedule. On my remaining free time I try to dedicate time to this blog whether it’s actually creating content or studying other bloggers, reading, or listening to podcasts. Oh and building up my Etsy shop (https://www.etsy.com/shop/InBetweenDreamsByRK) which by the way I have a ton of new bracelets ready to go! Find something that gets you excited and figure out ways to monetize it, you’ll never have to work a day in your life! Eyes on the prize sunshine.
- Take breaks
It’s so important to take breaks during your work. It helps increase productivity and enhance your creativity. Step away for a little while and do something that you love. Something I do sometimes when I complete my work tasks is I’ll watch youtube videos (usually they’re about marketing and branding 🤓) and most of the time I come back to my work with new fresh ideas and I become excited again. If possible, take a vacation even if it’s only 3 days! See a new place, eat different food, immerse yourself in the now. I went to Miami last year with a friend for a few days, we spent a lot of time on the beach and also creating content. I came back so refreshed and ready to work, my productivity was at an all time high and I was feeling inspired. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money either! Take time to step away from work.
- Eat Well
Don’t forget to nourish your body every single day. This is something I struggle with because I get so in to my work that I usually forget to eat, or I get lazy. Don’t be like me. I’m working on being better about this especially working from home everyday I literally have access to everything– no more excuses for me! However, I do definitely encourage meal prepping, this will save you so much time and money in the long run and you won’t be shoveling garbage food into your mouth last minute from a drive thru. I’m totally guilty of doing this before, it becomes a habit because it’s easy, but my body had no energy those days. 9. Be Grateful
There is so much to be grateful for in life. Your health, your family and friends, the roof over your head, your job…. its endless. Think about all the things you have rather than all you might be lacking. Taking the time to write down 10 things you are grateful for and it will pay off immensely. It may sound weird at first, but starting your day off with a positive mindset and thinking about all you do have will ultimately attract more abundance into your life. If you don’t have time to sit down and write them, say them to yourself while you’re getting ready in the morning or doing other tasks. It’s a great way to start the day and set yourself up for success. “I am grateful for _______ because ________.” 10x
10. Do what you’ve always said you wanted to
There’s no better time than to start today. Quit making excuses as to why you can’t do something and start making small, or big, moves each day to accomplish these goals. Whether it’s starting a blog, working out, studying for a test, eating healthy, launching a clothing line, doing a photoshoot, or creating a brand…. GET MOVING. Message that photographer, buy that domain name, research and sign up for a good gym in your area that aligns with who you are and what you want to work for– DON’T THINK JUST DO!
You got this! I’m rooting for you! 🤗
Until next time– thanks for sharing your time with me.
