If you’ve known me for awhile you know that I’ve started quite a few different projects or hobbies only to quickly become uninterested or distracted by the next thing on my list. I wouldn’t change a thing, I’m on this journey to figure out my life purpose and with every “no” puts me one step closer to my “yes”. In 2006 I wanted to skateboard, my mom brought me to TSX in the mall and I picked out my first complete set up. I didn’t want to scratch the bottom of the board and ruin it. In 2014 I started a jewelry business with a friend, it was a lot of work and I had too many distractions in my life at the time to give my all to the details. In 2015 I was introduced to Vemma and the network marketing world. Thankfully I participated in this for 8 months and learned more in that 8 months than I ever did in college. It really lit a fire within me to become something and that 9-5 job wasn’t the goal. In 2016 I started taking guitar lessons. I went through about 5 lessons and moved to South Carolina but forgot to take my notes with me. In 2017 I began building a clothing brand with Connor, “South Palm”. We had tags & other custom details created for the business, but the box of distressed shirts is sitting in a closet untouched. I think the ripped trend is slowly creeping away from us, but maybe they will make an appearance this summer. I’d like to at least get them out of my closet. Which brings us to now, 2018. I am more motivated than ever to create something huge, to become a master in one particular craft that can & will bring value to the masses… but I have no idea what direction to turn.
This past week I placed my first order with Jessie James Decker’s brand “Kittenish”. I’ve hesitated in the past because I didn’t know how the fit & quality of the clothing would be, but there was a promotion going on so I took a chance on this adorable pink suede fringey skirt. Not only did it ship out super fast (I received it in 3 days), but every detail was covered. From the packaging, the tags, branding, a handwritten “Thank you Racquel” on my receipt and a post card from Jessie– it was all perfect. The skirt is great quality and fits like a glove! After studying the clothing business last summer, while trying to build my own, I developed a strong attention to detail. This whole experience with Kittenish really sparked my creativity and motivated me to want to get back into this industry and learn more. I crave to work with large and small brands in order to learn as much as I can. From modeling, photography, social media, marketing, designing and selling.
Next week I take my test to become a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. In August of 2017 I began taking fitness seriously and realized the importance of going to a reputable gym versus a “big box gym”. I fell in love with everything Freestyle Fitness has to offer as well as the people I was surrounded by, finally good energy! Knowing I was about to face a tough challenge in my personal life paired with NY & winter, I knew I had to focus on myself for the next few months. I enrolled into NASM’s online course and scheduled my exam for March. With that came sacrifices, but in order to keep myself in a healthy head space and away from depression I had no choice. Tunnel vision. I’m not sure if I ever plan on training other people, but I think it’s good knowledge everyone should know and understand especially if they are throwing around weights and using equipment at a gym. Good form is SO important.
Currently I work as a Content Strategist/ Social Media Manager. I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside one of the leading Chiropractors in the industry. I do love it as it does go hand in hand with fitness and wellness so I’ve learned a lot from that as well. I also have a unique understanding of the musculoskeletal system and treatments/precautions for injuries– as a trainer/trainee it’s such a great bonus.
So this is how my brain works. It’s constantly flowing and moving in every direction trying to figure out ways to bring value and create. If you’re interested in collaborating on a project or you can help me figure out my life, that’d be great! Thanks, xoxo- Racquel
